A concept design for US Embassy housing in Kiev was commissioned by Aisi Capital for a presentation to members of the US Department of State in Kiev in October of 2009. JFA was asked by the client to design a building on a steeply sloped site that would contain residential housing units, residential amenities, parking garages and retail space. What resulted was a 20,000 m2 building (above grade), that stepped in a modular fashion along with the slope of the land. The design also took security into consideration by limiting access to two major control points, and providing a blast buffer in the form of a masonry wall. While the State department ultimately did not choose the site, the development group plans on continuing with the project.
